More than 2500 abstracts accepted
Yesterday Elsevier, on behalf of the IPY-OSC secretariate, started to send out acceptance emails to the vast majority of the submitters. 1100 abstracts has been accepted for oral presentations (about 40%). In addition 1400 has been accepted for posters.
Over the last weeks 120 conveners and reviewers have been working flat out to evaluate the 2650 abstracts which were received up until the extended deadline. One session is still forthcoming, but the rest of the conveners have finalised their most labour intensive task.
Congratulations!
- We congratulate everyone with their achievement, says chair of the IPY-OSC steering committee Dr. Olav Orheim. His congratulations are first and foremost extended to all the submitters that get this opportunity to present their science and outreach to the polar community.
But Dr. Orheim will also congratulate the conveners with a great job done. - We have got a group of conveners who are excellent scientists in their field. The work that the conveners have vested in the IPY Oslo Science Conference is guaranteeing the quality of the science programme. I am absolutely confident that participants will exchange some great and, in some areas of research, groundbreaking science.
Register and book hotel rooms now!
Participants who have got their acceptance email are urged to act swiftly, register for the conference and do the hotel booking. - It is in place to remind you that the early bird registration date is 8 March. Beyond that date we have to let go of the hotel rooms we have reserved, and can no longer guarantee accommodation, says Dr. Orheim.
He points to the fact that Oslo is a relatively small city and the hotel capacity is not without limits, especially because the conference takes place in the lead up to the Norwegian summer holiday season.
