T1-7 Polar/global atmospheric linking processes: Polar aerosols - sources and impacts
Convener: Dr. Claudio Tomasi, Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (ISAC),National Council of Research (CNR), Italy (c.tomasi@isac.cnr.it) Prof. Takashi Yamanouchi, National Institute of Polar Research, Japan (yamanou@nipr.ac.jp)
Aerosol is one of the most uncertain component in the polar atmosphere that has a possible impact on climate. Numbers of projects in IPY aimed to study behaviour and properties of polar aerosols, The session focuses on the recent findings from these IPY projects and related studies in the Arctic and Antarctic, in order to clarify physical, chemical and optical properties of aerosols and aerosol optical depths (AOD), and then to understand the role of polar aerosols on polar and global climate. Also future plans of cooperative studies are welcome.
